Mercedes Lewis Hamilton fastest in first practice for Monaco GP
Spectators left disappointed by intervention of rail and hail Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo had best drive of session
Rain and hail ruined the afternoon practice session at Monaco on Thursday. When the cars eventually did tip-toe out they failed to improve on Lewis Hamilton, who had topped the timesheet in the morning for Mercedes.
With just eight minutes remaining of the afternoon run, just nine of the 22 cars had set a time. It was desperately disappointing for the spectators, particularly as they saw just what they had missed shortly before the end, when the drivers went out on their slicks with some of the top men leading the way Ferraris Fernando Alonso, Hamilton and Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel.
