The Formula One team Marussia have released a statement calling for patience and understanding after their French driver, Jules Bianchi, underwent brain surgery following a crash at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka.

On Sunday the 25-year-olds car hit a recovery vehicle, which was removing the Sauber of Adrian Sutil that had come off the track at the same corner, and suffered a serious head injury.
