Drivers to confront FIA on Friday in Russia Marussia contemplating withdrawing from home race F1 safety heightened at Russian GP in wake of Bianchi crash

Angry Formula One drivers will demand safety assurances from the sports governing body on Friday night as it emerged the Russian-backed Marussia team were considering withdrawing from their home grand prix as a mark of respect for their driver Jules Bianchi, who continues to fight for his life in a Japanese hospital.

The Grand Prix Drivers Association will meet on Friday evening before what is expected to be a heated confrontation with the FIA, which is compiling a report of the accident at Suzuka last Sunday, in which Bianchi sustained serious head injuries. The accident was described as totally unacceptable by Sergio Pérez, who is demanding explanations of what happened and what are we going to change going forward.
